Press Release: Alabama State Council on the Arts

Support the Arts License Plate Advisory Committee awards over $86K in funding

Grant program promotes arts and creativity in Alabama, with focus on arts education

MONTGOMERY, Ala., (July 21, 2025) — The Alabama Arts License Plate Advisory Committee recently awarded 41 grants totaling $86,963. These grants will fuel upcoming arts education and community arts projects across the state.

The success of this grant program is tied directly to the number of Support the Arts license plates sold. As more Alabama residents choose to display their support for arts and creativity on their vehicles, the pool of available funding for arts-focused initiatives grows, ensuring that programs can continue to flourish and expand their reach. Since 2004, over $2 million in grants has been awarded to schools, municipalities, and arts organizations in Alabama.

John Coleman (Dothan) chairs the Alabama Arts License Plate Advisory Committee, which also includes Allison Dillon-Jauken (Huntsville) and Rebecca Yeager (Birmingham). The committee’s primary responsibility is to evaluate grant applications and issue awards that support arts programming and arts education.

Nonprofit organizations, municipalities, universities, and schools interested in applying for Arts License Plate grant funding can find more information and submit applications at arts.alabama.gov. The next application deadline is December 15, 2025.

Alabama drivers are encouraged to join the effort to fund arts programming by purchasing a Support the Arts plate via their county’s vehicle licensing office. For more information, visit revenue.alabama.gov.
