Announcing
project, operating support, and statewide partnership grant recipients
MONTGOMERY, Ala., (September 9,
2024) — At its September quarterly meeting in
Montgomery, Ala., the Alabama State Council on the Arts awarded 221 grants
totaling $3,733,900 to 177 organizations across the state. This
significant investment will support a wide range of arts initiatives, including
arts education, programming, administrative support, and operating expenses for
arts organizations.
“The funds awarded through our grantmaking process serve as
investments in our creative economy, and strengthen cultural expression,
provide curriculum-based arts education for students, and increase lifelong
learning opportunities for all citizens,” said Elliot Knight, Executive
Director of the Council on the Arts. “Public funding is essential in fostering
a vibrant arts community, and we are proud to support organizations that enrich
the lives of Alabamians.”
Project Grants, Administrative Project Grants, and
Curriculum-Based Project Grants
Project grants support a wide range of activities and events
that result in positive arts experiences for the public. Administrative project
grants provide salary support, internal or capacity-building projects, or
training and professional development. Curriculum-based project grants include
educational programming with sequential learning for Pre-K–12 students, with
activities connected to an organized curriculum.

About Alabama State Council on the Arts
The Council on the Arts is the official
state agency for the support and development of the arts in Alabama. The
Council works to expand and preserve the state’s cultural resources by
supporting nonprofit arts organizations, schools, colleges, units of local
government, and individual artists. Arts programs, assisted by Council grants,
have a track record of enhancing community development, education, cultural
tourism, and overall quality of life in all regions of the state. Alabama State
Council on the Arts grants are made possible by an annual appropriation from
the Alabama Legislature and additional funds from the National Endowment for
the Arts, a federal agency.
