MONTGOMERY-- The Alabama Department of Veterans
Affairs will celebrate its 70th Anniversary on Thursday, October 1st
at 10:30 am with a program, unveiling of art donated by the Department to the
State Capitol, and a reception. The
event will begin in the auditorium of the Alabama State Capitol located at 600
Dexter Avenue.
Admiral Clyde Marsh, Commissioner of the ADVA will be the
keynote speaker and ADVA Board Vice-Chairwoman, Delores “Dee” Hardin will offer
remarks as well. A slide presentation
highlighting the history of the Department will also be shown.
In addition to the program, the ADVA will present the
Alabama Historical Commission with an art installation for the State
Capitol. The art entitled “A Grateful
Nation Remembers” by famed Alabama artist Dean Mosher will be received in the
east wing of the first floor of the Capitol immediately after the program,
where it will remain on display. A
reception following the event will be held in the State Capitol Archives Room.
“Seventy years of dedicated service to Alabama’s
veterans marks a major milestone for the ADVA”, said Admiral Marsh. “We are delighted to celebrate this momentous
occasion and are proud to provide service and care to those who have given so
much to our state and our nation.”
The ADVA was founded 1945 to ensure that all veterans and their families in
the state of Alabama understand and receive all the benefits, support, care and
recognition to which they are entitled and have earned by securing our freedoms
through their service and sacrifice. The
ADVA provides a variety of services, including counseling, claims assistance,
educational assistance, burial benefits, and long-term care to eligible
recipients of the 420,000 veterans throughout the state. ADVA also assists veterans and eligible
dependents in obtaining federal VA education benefits, as well as a host of
other USDVA programs and benefits.
