ATLANTA, GA – On August 8, 2015, Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill will deliver remarks at the Seventh Annual RedState Gathering.
Secretary Merrill’s remarks will take place at the College Football Hall of Fame and focus on Alabama’s involvement with the SEC Presidential Primary. Alabama has joined Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia in hosting the SEC Presidential Primary on March 1, 2016.
Each year, the RedState Gathering brings together several leading conservatives to voice and promote their values. This year, the RedState Gathering will host 10 GOP Presidential candidates on August 6 through 9, 2015. The Gathering will begin with an address by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Friday morning, and end with remarks from Donald Trump Saturday evening at the College Football Hall of Fame.
"As Secretary of State, I will continue to position the South as a place where Presidential candidates are willing to make an effort to visit and meet our outstanding citizens," said Secretary Merrill. "The SEC Primary greatly increases the importance of southeastern states to candidates. Alabama has partnered together with several states in hosting the SEC Presidential Primary, and in 2016 our voice can be much louder by joining with other southern states that are so often forgotten or taken for granted. I look forward to discussing our efforts in Alabama with several other leading conservatives at the RedState Gathering."
Friday’s lineup will include former Texas Governor Rick Perry, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Business Executive Carly Fiorina and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
Saturday’s lineup will include former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Donald Trump.
This year’s theme is "Vision 2020" with a focus on the candidates presenting their 2020 vision for what the nation should look like after their first four years.
