WASHINGTON, DC - The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS),
the nation's oldest, nonpartisan professional association representing state
officials, today announced member appointments to national organizations.
"I am
pleased to welcome my colleagues to their advisory board positions, where I am
sure they will make a significant contribution," said NASS President Tom
Schedler, who serves as Louisiana Secretary of State. "These organizations
play an important role in state government policymaking and public engagement,
and we know our members will capably advise their stakeholders on the policies
and perspectives of secretary of state offices throughout the nation."
The NASS
advisory appointments include the following:
National Voter Registration Day
Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill
and Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will serve as members of
the Steering Committee for National Voter Registration Day (NVRD).
Supported by NASS and a coalition of nonprofit groups since the first effort in
2012, National Voter Registration Day is a day of nonpartisan outreach to help
register as many eligible voters as possible and encourage citizens to make
sure their voting information is up-to-date before any registration deadlines
pass.
This year, National Voter Registration Day
will take place on September 22, 2015.
All appointees will serve a one-year term
ending in July 2016.
