Bibb County Man Pleads Guilty to Woodlands Arson

Billy Joe Eloff, aged 73 of the Marvel Community, pleaded guilty to arson of woodlands in Bibb County Circuit Court on September 18, 2008. He was fined $1000.00 and sentenced to five years in prison. Sentence was suspended and Eloff was placed on two years supervised probation. This conviction was the result of an investigation conducted by Alabama Forestry Commission law enforcement officers.

Forest Investigators are state peace officers that investigate and enforce all laws and regulations pertaining to woods arson, timber theft, theft of timber harvesting equipment, and illegal dumping. An Arson/Forest Crimes Hotline is available so that

• Theft of timber
• Theft or vandalism of timber harvesting equipment
