MONTGOMERY,
Ala. – Alabama’s Secretary of State John H. Merrill will recognize former
Congressman Glen Browder on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Alabama
Archives & History building’s Milo B. Howard auditorium. Congressman
Browder will receive the National Association of Secretary of States (NASS)
Gold Medallion Award for his ground-breaking work with campaign finance reform
in the state of Alabama during his tenure as Secretary of State. Browder served
as a U.S. Congressman, Alabama Secretary of State, and Alabama State
Legislator. The public is invited to attend.
John Glen Browder is a former member of the United States House
of Representatives from Alabama's 3rd congressional district.
His political career began in the Alabama State House, where he served in
the Alabama House of Representatives from 1983-1986. He also served as the
45th Alabama Secretary of State from 1987-1989.
"As the Secretary of State, I am proud to continue recognizing Alabamians
who have championed issues that further fairness in the way we operate in the
state of Alabama, especially Glen Browder’s work initiating campaign
finance reform,” stated Secretary of State John Merrill. “I appreciate this
opportunity to acknowledge the great work that Congressman Browder has provided
the citizens of Alabama as a legislator, Secretary of State, and U.S.
Congressman. I am honored to recognize his work and say thank you on behalf of
the people of this great state."
The NASS Gold Medallion Award allows individual Secretaries of State to recognize
outstanding service and dedication to furthering the mission of the National
Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) within the states. Secretary
Merrill will preside over the recognition ceremony, and the public is invited
to attend.
