MONTGOMERY – Alabama’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) in partnership with the Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy (HSOP), are assisting Alabama’s Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers during the Medicare Open Enrollment by offering FREE one-on-one counseling on Medicare Part D (prescription drug plan). SHIP is a program funded by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and administered by the Alabama Department of Senior Services.
Medicare Part D provides seniors access to prescription drug insurance by many private insurance providers who offer a wide range of plans at various premiums and benefits. One can have as many as 40 different plans to choose from, which may also change from year to year. SHIP and HSOP are offering free enrollment counseling to help seniors navigate through this “sea of plans” and find the drug prescription plan that best fits their needs.
This personalized free, confidential and unbiased information by SHIP and HSOP will be available to Alabama seniors at ten special Medicare Open Enrollment Events across nine counties in Alabama. To view the list of locations, dates and times for these events, go to www.pharmacy.auburn.edu/medicare/getting_help.htm. Attendees are reminded when preparing to attend an event, they must bring all of their insurance cards and a complete list of current medications.
