The staff of the Perry County Health Department, along with staff from the Central Office of the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), are actively investigating contacts of individuals that have tested positive for tuberculosis (TB) in the Marion, Ala., area.
So far, six cases have been confirmed in adults and three cases in children. Dr. Karen Landers, Pediatrician and Assistant State Health Officer for Tuberculosis Control and Immunization, has sent an informative letter to parents of school children nforming them of the situation in Perry County and advising them that children with tuberculosis are not contagious to other people.
In addition, the Perry County Health Department is sponsoring a health fair at Sawyer Grocery, at 113 Thompson St., Marion, on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. where testing for TB, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV will be offered at no cost.
