HONOREES ANNOUNCED FOR 2014 ALABAMA SENIOR CITIZENS HALL OF FAME
MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Department of Senior Services is pleased to announce the selection of ten Alabamians for induction into the 2014 class of the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame: Helen Carter of Elkmont; Robert E. Davis of Mobile; Rosetter Gomes of Hartford; Sandra F. Kent of Heflin; W. Hardy McCollum of Tuscaloosa; LTC R. Glenn Niven, USA, Ret. of Harpersville; Joyce O’Neal of Selma; Dr. Frederick Douglas Reese, Sr. of Selma; Sarah S. Swindle of Hoover; and Jim Vanoy of Opelika.
Established in 1983 by the State Legislature, the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame bestows recognition and honor upon deserving Alabama citizens for their outstanding accomplishments, service, and contributions to the lives of older Americans.
In addition to the Hall of Fame inductions, Special Awards will be presented at the ceremony to senior citizens for outstanding service in other categories, including Civic, Educator, Military, Professional, Religion, Veteran and Volunteer.
Couples celebrating 65 or more wedding anniversaries and individuals who have celebrated 100 or more birthdays will also be recognized.
The induction ceremony will be held Sunday, October 12 in Montgomery at First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.
