The regular meeting of the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners was held on July 25, 2014, at 100 North Union Street, Suite 736 in Montgomery, Alabama with the Board Chair and Secretary present.
Board Chair, James Ware, called the meeting to order at 9:38 a.m.
There was a quorum of members present including:

Ellen Leonard, Attorney for the Board, and Executive Director Brenda Holden were present for the meeting.
Unless otherwise specified, all votes were taken by a show of hands. Proper notice for the meeting was provided to the Secretary of State and posted on the Secretary of State website.
Approval of Minutes:
A copy of the minutes from the May 16, 2014 Board Meeting was distributed and reviewed. Paula Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes. Leisa Askew seconded the motion. Voting in favor of the motion: Paula Johnson, James Ware, Jennifer Venable-Humphrey, Leisa Askew, Esophia Clayborn. Opposed: none. Abstained: Mandy Andrews
Old Board Business:
a. Brenda Holden updated the Board on the status of complaints. There are six (6) open complaints and two (2) pending assignment.
b. The Board reviewed the listing of new licensees. Paula Johnson made a motion to approve the list of new licensees. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
c. The Board reviewed and discussed a quarterly update provided by Caroline Vickers. Paula Johnson made a motion to accept Ms. Vickers update. Jennifer Venable-Humphrey seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
d. The Board reviewed request to sit for the licensure exam from Marian Smith. Jennifer Venable-Humphrey made a motion to allow Ms. Smith to sit for the exam. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. Voting in favor of the motion: James Ware, Jennifer Venable-Humphrey, Leisa Askew, Esophia Clayborn, Paula Johnson. Opposed: none. Abstained: Mandy Andrews
e. The Board reviewed the Hearing Officer’s opinion regarding Chadmon Wright. Paula Johnson made a motion to accept the Hearing Officer’s recommendation. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.

a. No one recently invited to speak to other groups regarding the Board.
b. Dr. Mike Garver made a presentation to the Board regarding a Wellness Program for Social Workers.
c. The Board Newsletter was reviewed and approved for release.

a. The Board reviewed a request from Jane Ferguson for a waiver of 5.5 CE. Leisa Askew made a motion to provide a CE waiver for Ms. Ferguson for 5.5 CE. Paula Johnson seconded the motion. Voting in favor of the motion: Paula Johnson, Leisa Askew, Jennifer Venable-Humphrey, James Ware. Opposed: Mandy Andrews, Abstained: Esophia Clayborn.
b. The Board reviewed, discussed, and denied a request from Sandra J. Madaris.
c. The Board reviewed a request from MiJayla Daniel for an extension of her approved time frame to take the licensure exam. Leisa Askew made a motion to extend Ms. Daniel’s application approval for two (2) months from July 25. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
d. The Board reviewed a request from Vickie Cargile for a CE Waiver due to medical issues. Jennifer Venable-Humphrey made a motion to approve the waiver of CE with proper medical documentation. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
e. The Board reviewed a request from April Nail for reinstatement of her license and certification at the LCSW and PIP levels. The request was reviewed, discussed, and denied.
f. The Board referred the issue of Wydessha Newsome practicing with an inactive license to Legal Counsel. g. The Board reviewed the following requests from INR for CE approval:
1. Psychotherapy and Emotional Healing
i. Leisa Askew made a motion to approve. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. The motion was
approved unanimously.

i. Died for lack of motion

i. Paula Johnson made a motion to approve. Leisa Askew seconded the motion. The motion as approved
unanimously.

i. Paula Johnson made a motion to approve. Leisa Askew seconded the motion. The motion as approved
unanimously.

i. Died for lack of motion
h. The Board reviewed, discussed, and denied a request from Stacey Neumann requesting CE approval for the SkillPath Seminar “The Conference for Women” on September 10, 2014 in Birmingham, Al.
i. The Board referred the issue of Carolyn Hall practicing with an inactive license to Legal Counsel.
The Board took a ten (10) minute break at 11:13 a.m. and returned at 11:24 a.m. Leisa Askew made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 1:15 p.m. Esophia Clayborn seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
A Public Hearing to discuss the proposed changes to the Administrative Code will be held August 12, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for September 26, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.
