Agriculture Commissioner John McMillan announced today that a Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection will be held for Cullman, Jackson, Lauderdale, Limestone, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Marshall counties on August 28, 2013.
An additional Clean Day event has been added for Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Perry and Shelby counties on August 29, 2013.
The Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection Program is sponsored by Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries along with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System with funding provided by a grant from US Environmental Protection Agency Region 4.
"The Clean Day Waste Pesticide Collection Program helps farmers, small businesses, households, and other pesticide users to properly dispose of unwanted and unusable pesticides,” said McMillan. The program is offered to participants free of charge.
Unusable and unwanted pesticides must be disposed of according to label instructions. It is illegal to bury, burn, or dump a pesticide. State sponsored waste pesticide collections provide a means to remove these wastes and help pesticide users comply with the law while ensuring the safety of the environment.
In order to participate in the program, pre-registration is required with your local county agent. More information is available on the attached registration form.
