MONTGOMERY,
Ala.—Today, several changes in campaign finance law become effective under an
act passed by the Alabama legislature during its last regular session.
Act 2013-311 revised a number of older portions of the original Fair Campaign
Practices Act and created new sections to promote a fairer election process.
Some of the
changes that are now in place include:
* A filing threshold of
$1,000 for all candidates for office, from statewide offices to local races.
* A system of fines for
failure to timely or accurately file campaign finance reports.
* Clarifies PAC to PAC
transfer issues.
“This new
law not only creates stiffer penalties for those who violate it, but increases
transparency in our elections process,” said Secretary of State Jim Bennett.
