Press Release: Forestry Commission, Alabama

Alabama Firefighters Rerouted to Oregon Wildfires

Originally bound for California, 22 Alabama wildland firefighters have been re-deployed to Oregon to assist with wildfire control. Arriving in Redmon, Oregon, early evening on Thursday, July 17, the team was enroute to California when their orders were changed.

The multi-agency crew on this western fire detail consists of nine USDA Forest Service firefighters, eleven Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) firefighters, one from the National Park Service in Alabama, and one from the Pelham Fire Department. Two of the AFC employees are crew leaders for teams from other states and agencies.

As this is the prime season in Oregon for lightning strike wildfires, they will be the initial attack crews working such blazes. These firefighters will be on assignment for 14 days before returning to Alabama.
