HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - A trucking software consultancy and a firm that makes custom software will be representing Huntsville in the 2013 Alabama Launchpad Startup Competition.
The competition, sponsored by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, was previously only for university groups. This year, it's open more broadly to "pre-seed" teams. A total of 22 teams registered, but only 13 will go on to compete for $100,000. Teams will present pitches to a panel of judges on March 4 and those who advance will give final pitches May 3.
One team, eTruckBiz, plans to use online software and business coaching to reduce paperwork and ease regulatory filing for small trucking companies. The other, Zenoware, offers a suite of software products.
Other companies in the competition hail from Birmingham, Mobile, Auburn and Tuscaloosa. Proposed products range from smartphone apps to nanotechnology for chemical manufacturers to healthcare IT products.
"Alabama Launchpad is proving to be an invaluable asset for the state's aspiring entrepreneurs, and by helping them develop their ideas into successful, high-growth ventures, the competition benefits the broader landscape of Alabama's economy," EDPA President Bill Taylor said.
Judges for the competition are from Wells Fargo, MobileHelp, Southern Research, Daxko and Mobile's MBDA Business Council.
