HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Registration opens this week for the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama's annual Alabama Launchpad Start-Up Competition.
Teams interested in the proof-of-concept competition can register starting Wednesday, Dec. 12, according to the EDPA. The competition has awards totaling $100,000 for the winning business ideas. "Pre-seed" teams interested in entering their business plans must complete an online application and pay a $150 fee by the Jan. 13 deadline.
"This is an important part of the state's effort to focus on job creation through innovation, entrepreneurship, research and development, and commercialization," EDPA President Bill Taylor said in a statement announcing competition. "This competition provides the opportunity to identify and support innovation that has high growth potential."
The Alabama Launchpad competition is a public-private partnership with several Alabama universities to help foster innovation through promoting new businesses and technologies in the state.
This spring, a contestant from the University of Alabama at Huntsville was one of four winners in the proof-of-concept category. The company, ArchPatent, won $24,620 to create a better patent search engine.
