Time extended to receive voted ballots from military and overseas voters who are residents of the following Alabama counties: Autauga, Baldwin, Barbour, Blount, Bullock, Butler, Calhoun, Chambers, Chilton, Elmore, Greene, Houston, Lee, Limestone, Marengo, Marion, Morgan, Pickens, Pike, St. Clair, Talladega, and Tallapoosa
Under Federal law, if you are a UOCAVA voter and requested your absentee ballot for the November 6, 2012 general election for federal and state offices on or before September 22, 2012, you have 45 days in which to receive, vote, and return your absentee ballot. Due to the fact that not all absentee ballots requested on or before September 22, 2012 were sent to voters on or before the September 22, 2012 deadline, Secretary of State Beth Chapman has extended the time for receiving and counting your absentee ballot by 10 days, to Friday, November 16, 2012, if your voted ballot is postmarked or tendered to a commercial ground or air carrier on or before November 5, 2012.
Secretary Chapman urges you not to delay in returning your voted ballot. Please remember that you must complete and sign the absentee ballot affidavit that accompanies your absentee ballot and have it witnessed by two (2) witnesses before mailing or returning your voted ballot to the county absentee election manager. Secretary Chapman will use the full powers of her office to ensure that your ballot is counted, so long as it is postmarked or tendered to a commercial ground or air carrier on or before November 5, 2012 and is received in the absentee election manager’s office by noon on November 16, 2012.
If you have any questions, please contact your county absentee election manager or the Elections Division of the Alabama Secretary of State’s office at 1-800-274-8683.
