HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Steven Hill, the president and CEO of AEgis Technologies, received the Russell Brown Executive Leadership Award tonight at the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County's Small Business Awards celebration.
And AEgis, the Huntsville-based advanced technology and consulting services company that Hill co-founded, was named Small Business of the Year. This new award recognizes a company with 51 to 350 employees.
The Young Professional of the Year Award went to Tony McGinnis, the executive director of the Harris Home for Children.
Winners in other categories were:
• Cummings Aerospace - government contracting services.
• Flint River Animal Hospital - businesses/professional services.
• GaN Corp. - technology.
• National Children's Advocacy Center - nonprofit of the year.
More than 1,000 people attended the 27th annual ceremony at the Von Braun Center North Hall.
Ninety contenders in the seven categories were chosen from more than 400 nominations.
The Russell Brown Executive Leadership Award is named in honor of the late community and business leader.
A team of independent judges scored the finalists without knowing the identities of the companies or the individuals, and company financials were reviewed separately by accounting professionals. The independent scores were then combined to identify the top three scores in each category.
