CALVERT -- A company that will provide melt shop scrap services on site at ThyssenKrupp AG's stainless steel division will provide an estimated 68 jobs by its second year of operation, officials said today. The Mobile County Industrial Development Authority voted to give Tube City IMS sales and property tax breaks in light of the company's investment of over $28 million to build and equip its shop, which is expected to be online by fall, according to Claudia Zimmermann of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce.
Finland's Outokumpu Oyj is working to purchase ThyssenKrupp AG's stainless steel division. The deal with Outokumpu would make that company the world's largest stainless steel maker, and though it must still pass regulatory hurdles, it is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The jobs will pay an average annual salary of $56,761.
