The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed that sewage from the City of Uniontown sewage system has been and is overflowing to Cottonwood Creek. Cottonwood Creek flows into Prairie Creek and from there, on to the Black Warrior River above Demopolis.

The Health Department urges residents to exercise caution if using these bodies of water for recreational purposes. Thoroughly cook any fish caught nearby and wash hands after coming in contact with the water or fish.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has notified the Health Department that the City of Uniontown is in compliance with all applicable requirements of its permit for drinking water. Residents in the area may safely drink the water.
