The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has issued an administrative order to the City of Uniontown as a result of a sewage overflow occurring from the city’s spray irrigation field into nearby Freetown Creek. Freetown Creek flows into Chilatchee Creek and continues on to flow to the Alabama River near Alberta, AL .
The health department urges residents to exercise caution if using these bodies of water for recreational purposes. Thoroughly cook fish caught near these waters, and wash hands after coming in contact with the water or fish.
The health department has been notified by ADEM that the City of Uniontown is in compliance with all applicable requirements of their permit for drinking water. Residents in the area may safely drink the water.
