HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Karen Mills, the administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, will tour on Wednesday Huntsville-based Tec-Masters, a small business the agency calls a "champion" of government contracting.
Mills leads the 3,000-employee federal agency that helps small business owners and entrepreneurs secure financing, technical assistance, training and federal contracts.
She was sworn in on April 6, 2009, as the SBA's 23rd administrator after being appointed by President Obama and unanimously confirmed by the Senate. Earlier this year, Obama elevated the head of the SBA to Cabinet-level status.
Tec-Masters, which was founded by Dr. Marvin Carroll more than 20 years ago, has nearly 200 employees. It specializes in engineering services, modeling and simulation, logistics support and manufacturing, creative multimedia, information technology and other services for government and industry customers. It participates in the Department of Defense Mentor Protégé Program.
