Strategic Technology Reserve Conference Focuses on Best Practices
SPANISH FORT—The Alabama Department of
Homeland Security Director Spencer Collier gave the opening remarks Tuesday,
March 20, 2012, at the Strategic Technology Reserve Training Workshop
March 20th -22nd at the 5 Rivers – Alabama’s Delta
Resource Center in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
Members of the Strategic Technology Reserve (which includes
county emergency management officials, law enforcement, firefighters, and
various other emergency first responders from across the state) are participating in educational
sessions for the first two days of the three day conference. On Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 9am at
Battleship Park, the participants will focus on specific procedures associated
with complex communication issues that first responder operators face during
deployment in disasters. These issues
have been identified as action items following previous deployments and now
will be utilized through best practices to enhance the capabilities of
emergency personnel.
The Alabama Department of Homeland Security’s primary focus
for this is to support our state’s first responders and ensure communications
operators have the equipment and training needed to meet their needs. Thursday
morning will give our emergency operators time to practice the implementation
of the techniques and procedures reviewed earlier in the conference.
Director Collier stated: “It is imperative that we provide this type
of integral training to our first responders.
Alabama has been affected by many disasters recently and providing
training to our first responders and better equipping them with the skills
learned and information obtained is in lockstep with the mission of the Alabama
Department of Homeland Security.
Interoperable communications is a challenge that we must meet to ensure
the safety of Alabama’s citizens and critical infrastructure. I am grateful we have the opportunity to
provide that training, to make our first responders more proficient.
We encourage news media
attendance for this training:
Where: USS Alabama Battleship Park--Battleship Parkway (Mobile, Alabama)
