MONTGOMERY,
Ala.— Secretary of State Beth Chapman encourages Alabama voters to check their
voter registration status and also their polling location prior to the March 13th
Primary Election. Due to the process of redistricting this year, polling
locations may have changed because of the new district lines.
“Counties
have been doing a great job of notifying voters of these changes by sending out
voter registration cards, but it never hurts to check. We want everyone
to be where they are supposed to be on the day of the election to exercise
their right to vote.” Chapman said.
Chapman’s
office has made the process of checking on voter registration status and
polling location easy with the website, www.alabamavotes.gov.
An Alabama voter can log on to find that information or to find other facts
regarding how to register and also how to obtain an absentee ballot.
A
voter may also call or visit the county Board of Registrars to get any
information they need about registration or polling location for Election Day.
If
a citizen is not registered to vote, the deadline is fast approaching to do
so. March 2nd is the last day to register before the
primary. A citizen may download a registration form from the website
mentioned above and mail or hand-deliver it to the county Board of
Registrars. A citizen may also register to vote when applying for or
renewing a State of Alabama driver’s license or identification card, at state
and local Department of Human Resources offices, Department of Health WIC
offices, Medicaid and Department of Rehabilitation offices. Mail-in voter
registration forms can be found at public libraries, armed forces recruiting
stations, local probate offices, universities, public schools and colleges.
“I
encourage every citizen who is eligible to be registered and be at the polls on
March 13th to let their voice be heard,” Chapman said.
