Southern Group of State Foresters Releases Forest Certification Report

The Southern Group of State Foresters has released a new report about forest certification in the South. Forest Certification Programs: Status and Recommendations in the South provides detailed information regarding forest certification, a comparison of the major certification systems and recommended strategies for southern state forestry agencies to consider as the issue develops.

“Forest certification is an evolving issue that grows in complexity every day,” said Linda Casey, Alabama State Forester and current Chair of SGSF. “This report clearly and concisely summarizes the issue and provides an easy-to-follow comparison of the various certification programs. Our hope is that it will help state forestry agencies – and the forestry community – understand certification so we can continue to make educated decisions about the future of our southern forests.”
