MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Secretary of State Beth Chapman has announced that all regular primary elections for 2012 will officially be held in March. This announcement comes after the United States Department of Justice approved the changes. Earlier this year, the Alabama Legislature passed House Bill 425, which combined the dates for the Presidential Preference Primary and the regular primary election and set them to be held on the second Tuesday in March.
"This is a good move for the people of Alabama," said Chapman. "This will allow the state to combine two elections, which will save the taxpayers millions of dollars. In these tough economic times, we need to look at every way we can cut back while maintaining the best services for the citizens of our state. This is just one common sense solution to improve the efficiency of our state government."
