Pat and Jack Khamken, brothers and founders of J&P Khamken Industries, Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., came to the U.S. as refugees from Laos at the end of the Vietnam War. Jack started the business in 2000 after obtaining citizenship and learning the machinist trade. Pat later joined him after completing his military service. The company is now an 8(a)-certified, small disadvantaged and service disabled-veteran-owned business that provides a wide range of services including manufacturing products for the defense industry, munitions, aircraft components and parts, machine products and assemblies and dockside ship repairs. With a near-perfect record on contracts, Khamken has delivered more than 1,000 contracts with a 100 percent on-time or early delivery record and has become a valued subcontractor to major defense prime contractors such as Lockheed Martin, BAE, Raytheon Missile Systems, General Dynamics and L-3 Communications.
As part of the National Small Business Week held annually in Washington D.C., the United States Small Business Administration recognizes the impact made by entrepreneurs and small business owners across the nation.
For 2011, J&P Khamken Industries, Inc. was chosen as SBA's Region IV Subcontractor of the Year and invited to attend National Business Week. Among ten other regional subcontractor award winners selected to attend, JPKII was honored as SBA's 2011 National Subcontractor of the Year at the Procurement Awards Banquet held on Thursday, May 19th. Pat Khamken, Jack Khamken, and Dwight Howard were in attendance to receive the award.
J&P Khamken Industries, Inc. was also selected the 2011 DLA Vendor Excellence Award for Small Disadvantaged Business.
The Alabama State University, College of Business Administration, Small Business Development Center recognized J&P Khamken’s accomplishments at an Awards Luncheon in their honor on June 14, 2011. Congratulations on a job well done! |
