The AFAPA has been named 2005 State Foster Parent Association of the Year. The award will be presented by the National Foster Parent Association at the organization’s Annual Conference to be held May 9-14 in Garden Grove, California.
Commissioner Page Walley applauded the selection of the Alabama Foster and Adoptive Parent Association (AFAPA) for a national award.
"We are very proud that the AFAPA is receiving this prestigious national award," said DHR Commissioner Page Walley. "We value and respect the organization’s enthusiastic advocacy on behalf of Alabama’s foster families," he said.
The executive director of the National Foster Parent Association joined Commissioner Walley in praising the AFAPA. "The Alabama Foster and Adoptive Parent Association is an exemplary association, strengthening the relationship between foster parents and the Department of Human Resources," said Karen Jorgenson. "The AFAPA supports the foster parents of Alabama through efforts such as the Foster Parent Bill of Rights and the provision of student scholarships," she said.
