Kay Brown is the recipient of the 2006 Louise Pittman Award for Excellence in Child Welfare. Ms. Brown, a thirty-three year veteran with DHR, has accumulated a great deal of knowledge that she is willing to share with other social workers, especially new workers. She has an excellent working relationship with foster parents, other agency professionals, community providers and her co-workers.
Ms. Brown is a hands-on worker who makes frequent contacts with everyone involved in her cases. She has earned the respect of all who work with her, including Judges and staff of Juvenile Court.
She is always available to provide for the needs of her families, even if it means she has to give up her evenings and weekends. She routinely transports children in her caseload to dental and doctor’s appointments, school activities and family visits. She attends graduations, school activities, plays or any function that a child is involved in. She truly treats the children in her caseload as if they were her own children.
DHR first established the Louise Pittman Award for Excellence in Child Welfare in 1990 to recognize committed line workers and supervisors who work to improve the outcomes for children and families that we serve.
Miss Pittman dedicated her career to child welfare for over 50 years. Her entire professional and personal life was devoted to enhancing the lives of Alabama’s children. Miss Pittman passed peacefully in her sleep earlier this year.
