A decision by the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) to implement child care subsidy reductions beginning April 1, 2009 is being delayed until May 1, 2009. The delay is possible due to additional funding the Department will receive from the FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, H.R. 1105 that was passed by the U.S. Congress on March 10, 2009.
The proposed actions to further lower the income eligibility levels for families to receive child care subsidies are part of the state-wide budget reduction measures that have been necessary for the State of Alabama in recent months.
"We are making every effort to maintain these benefits for children currently enrolled in the child care subsidy program," stated DHR Commissioner Nancy Buckner. "We are committed to serving as many children as possible and assisting low-income families so they can remain in the work force."
The DHR Child Care Subsidy Program currently serves over 27,000 Alabama children.
