This month and throughout the year, the Department of Human Resources encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Alabama a better place for families and children.
Unfortunately, many factors can limit parents’ ability to protect and nurture their children. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect.
“April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children, said Commissioner Nancy Buckner. Everyone’s participation is critical. Focusing our attention on prevention efforts that support parents and create healthier communities is one of the best things we can do to strengthen families.
If you have a reasonable suspicion that a child is being abused or neglected, you should make a report. Privacy laws prohibit the release of information about specific cases, including the name of the person who made the report.
To report suspected abuse or neglect, contact your local County Department of Human Resources or your local law enforcement authorities.
