Women’s Health Update set for Oct. 16 in Birmingham

“Women’s Health Across the Lifespan” is the theme of the Third Annual Women’s Health Update, a continuing education offering for registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers and dietitians. The conference will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Vincent’s Health System Bruno Conference Center in Birmingham.

This update will disseminate scholarly work that is aimed at improving the health status of women across the lifespan and provide a venue for scholars from various disciplines to share their latest projects or research findings with colleagues and health care professionals in Alabama.

Presentation topics include:

  • The impact of health care reform on women’s health issues in Alabama.
  • Women in the health promotion and prevention mode.
  • Strategies to promote mental health in women across the lifespan.
  • Postpartum depression.
  • Diabetes management in underserved populations of children, adolescents and women.
  • End-of-life planning for women.

Registration is $75. Continuing education hours have been approved from these respective professional boards: Alabama State Board of Nursing, 7.5 hours; Alabama Board of Social Work Examiners, 5 hours; Alabama Dietetic Association, 7 CPEU hours; and Alabama Pharmacy Association, 5.5 hours.
