Lt. Governor Jim Folsom, Jr. has announced the appointment
of Senator Tom Butler as the 5th Congressional District
representative to the Alabama Joint Transportation Legislative Committee.
This appointment comes at a critical time for The 5th
Congressional District with these North Alabama counties experiencing a period
of explosive growth in both population and economic development resulting from
the actions of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission. Recent studies and reports indicate the 5th
Congressional District is the fastest growing area of the State of Alabama.
“Tom Butler is a man of the highest integrity whose record
of commitment to the citizens in the District. Senator Butler
possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience regarding the transportation
needs of this area and I have absolute confidence that his involvement on the
Joint Transportation Legislative Committee will be invaluable.” said Folsom.

Tom Butler said he is honored by Governor Folsom’s confidence and looks forward
to representing the district on the commission during a period of time that
presents great challenges as well as a wealth of opportunity. “Transportation
issues are of primary concern to the people of the 5th congressional
District." Said Butler, “With literally
tens of thousands of people moving into the area, it is of paramount importance
that we place a renewed focus on our existing road and bridge systems in North
Alabama and explore any and all avenues for new road development to ease congestion
and guarantee the safe travel of our people.”
The 5th District is comprised of Lauderdale,
Lawrence, Colbert, Limestone, Madison, Jackson and Morgan counties.
