(Perdido Beach) A professional association representing utility companies serving over one
million Alabamians honored Lt. Governor Jim Folsom, Jr. last night at it's 2010 annual meeting by presenting him the organization's Distinguished
Service Award.
"Locally owned and operated power systems are one of the cornerstones of this state's economic development infrastructure. They are absolutely vital to this state's future." Folsom said.
The group, Electric Cities of Alabama, presents the ECA Distinguished
Service Award to commend elected officials
for their support of municipal public power systems.
“Governor Folsom has always been,
and continues to be, a staunch advocate
for municipally owned electric utilities. It is only fitting we honor him
with one of ECA’s most prestigious awards.” ECA’s
Executive Director, Jonathan A. Hand said.
ECA Board Chairman Mark Ennis said, “Governor
Folsom understands the important role municipalities play in offering
reliable and low utility rates. On behalf of electric
municipalities across the state of Alabama, I thank Governor Folsom for
his years of service and friendship he has shown our industry.”
ECA is a coalition of the state’s municipally owned electric
utilities. Alabama’s electric cities span the state from the Tennessee
Valley region in the north to the gulf and wiregrass regions of
the south. ECA serves approximately one million customers in 36 cities.
