MONTGOMERY,
AL – With allegations in four specific
counties and concerns expressed in others, Secretary of State Beth Chapman says
there will be “zero tolerance” for voter fraud in Alabama.
Chapman has received a sworn
affidavit wherein a voter stated he was offered $25 in exchange for his vote in
this election. Other complaints have centered around the misuse of absentee
ballots which traditionally have been a problem in Alabama elections. There are
some elected officials who have reported an excessive number of absentee
ballots as well. These troubling reports about possible absentee ballot fraud
“cause reason for suspicion" according to Chapman.
“Under the law, I may not have the
authority to prosecute those who participate in voter fraud, but I can and will
do everything within my power to ensure that voter fraud is prosecuted to the
fullest extent possible,” Chapman said.
Secretary Chapman will be visiting
the counties where the reports of voter fraud have originated on Election Day.
Chapman is unopposed and not on the primary ballot.
