MONTGOMERY, AL - During national Public
Service Recognition Week, Secretary of State Beth Chapman praised the service
of all of the elections officials and poll workers across the state of Alabama
who make it possible for eligible citizens to enact their very sacred right to
vote.
"It takes people at all levels working together diligently for elections
to be successful," said Secretary Chapman. "Getting a county or state
ready for an election is not a glamorous job. County registrars, poll workers
and city and county election officials are the ones at the forefront of the
elections process for the voters. I want to applaud them all for working to
ensure the best, most honest elections in America here in the state of
Alabama."
The theme of this year's Public Service Recognition Week is "innovation
and opportunity," which makes a statement for the community of election
professionals. The use of technology has changed the lives of Americans in many
ways; the electoral process is no different. Alabama elections officials have
been working continuously to prepare for a busy June primary and November
general election cycle, working with creative and innovative ways to improve
the process for voters.
State officials continue to work to make the process of voting more secure,
reliable, accurate and efficient. The Secretary of State’s office continues to
develop new approaches to serving voters online by championing legislation to
solve everyday challenges that affect military and overseas voters, voters with
disabilities, and other challenges voters face when casting their ballot.
"Alabama elections officials and poll workers hold a place of distinction
in the ranks of public servants as they dedicate themselves to making certain
that our elections are the best in the world. I am honored and pleased to
recognize and thank them for their service to our state," said Secretary
Chapman.
