Folsom Honors Calera Students
(Calera) Lieutenant Governor Jim Folsom, Jr., visited Calera High School on October 20 to recognize a group of students who won a college-level Basic Utility Vehicle design competition sponsored by The Institute for Affordable Transportation (IAT) in April.
Their design of a BUV that could be converted into an ambulance not only scored the highest of any other team, but also won the most innovative award.
"It is very fitting that we take time to recognize the accomplishments of these young people, Folsom said. “Their efforts have gotten the attention of the state, the country and other parts of the world. Our state needs better teamwork, cooperation, and innovation and they have given us a model to follow.
Lt. Gov. Folsom presented each student with a copy of a resolution naming each honorary Lieutenant Governors. He also awarded each student an Alabama state pin.
In addition to the program instructor, Brian Copes, Governor Folsom made presentations to Kyle Brasher, Eric Burrells, Delving Davis, Kalyn Grant, TJ Killingworth, Jared Lollar, Ethan McKenzie, Chris McKinney, Cikai Shanks, and Julius Smith.
