GPS 101: Technology for Better Land Management

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System in conjunction with Baldwin Forestry Planning Committee, welcomes you to attend an workshop on “GPS 101” at the Auburn’s Gulf Coast Research Station in Fairhope, Alabama. The workshop will provide a hands-on opportunity to operate a GPS unit and learn to use GIS software (20 GPS Units and Laptops will be available for use during the training exercises).

Goals:
1. Overview basic Geographic Information Systems (GPS)
2. Review various GPS systems and the management options and uses they can
    provide a landowner
3. Overview of free or inexpensive software that can be used with to GPS develop maps
4. Hands-on training with Garmin GPS units
5. Hands-on training with low-cost GIS software
