Cindy Heath was no stranger to the business world when she decided to start her own business. Cindy had 25 years of office experience before founding The Office Organizer, a successful business she has run out of her home since March 2002. Cindy is a sole proprietor and the only employee. She managed to start and build her business without taking out any loans - that is a success story in and of itself!
The Office Organizer offers bookkeeping and payroll services as well as computer setup and training and office setup and organizing. Cindy says her biggest strength and success comes from her compassion for others. She enjoys helping people and prides herself in being able to explain confusing and technical information to her customers in a non-intimidating way that they can easily understand.
Like many SBDC clients, Cindy wanted to start her own business to increase the flexibility she had in her work. She says the only problems she encountered in getting the business off the ground were the usual slow start-up and learning to cut back on spending until cash flow increased. Cindy came to the Auburn University SBDC for general start up assistance, and she attended several SBDC classes on important subjects such as marketing and taxes. The association has proven even more beneficial to Cindy's business since Auburn SBDC Director Jackie Di Pofi now recommends The Office Organizer to many other SBDC clients and Cindy's business cards are on display in the SBDC lobby.
Possibly Cindy's biggest success yet is weathering the current economic downturn without a hitch. She says the business has not really been affected by the sad economic situation, and in fact, she has added several new clients recently.
