MONTGOMERY,
Ala., (September 16, 2026) — Arts and creativity promote
community engagement, support economic growth, and inspire learners of all ages.
That’s why the Alabama State Council
on the Arts is pleased to award $3,909,400 in grants to 201
organizations and educational institutions, supporting a wide range of programming
and projects across Alabama.
From theatre productions, festivals, and concert series to administrative
support, exhibitions, and after-school arts programs, these grants assist organizations
that bring arts experiences to communities in every part of the state.
“These investments help ensure that everyone in our state
has access to the transformative power of the arts,” said Elliot Knight,
executive director of the Council on the Arts. “We encourage people to explore
upcoming events and artistic programs in their communities and experience
firsthand how state investments enhance the quality of life in Alabama.”
The Council board approved this round of funding during a quarterly meeting in Florence and Sheffield, Alabama. The Council on the Arts also
spent time networking and learning more about arts-related initiatives
happening in the Shoals area. Presenters included: - Sheffield City Schools superintendent Dr. Carlos
Nelson and Amp Up Arts director Ashley Lucier;
- Alabama Chanin and Project Threadways founder
Natalie Chanin and director of programs Olivia Terenzio;
- Singer-songwriter and session musician Caleb
Elliott, accompanied by the Shoals Symphony String Quartet; and
- Amita Bhakta, local artist and member of the
Indian American Artists Association.

The grants above are in response to applications submitted by the June 2, 2026, deadline and support activities during the 2027 fiscal year
(October 1, 2026 - September 30, 2027). All applications are reviewed by
Council on the Arts staff for eligibility, a panel of peers from the artistic
and creative sector, the Council’s Grants Review Committee, and by the full
15-member Council board. The next grants cycle is for Creative Places Arts
Facilities; applications open October 1, 2026, and must be submitted by
December 1, 2026.

The Council on the Arts
is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts in
Alabama. The Council works to expand and preserve the state’s cultural
resources by supporting nonprofit arts organizations, schools, colleges, units
