Dr. William Curry has been named Alabama’s 2025 “Community Star” by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). 

The Alabama Department of Health is proud to join communities nationwide in celebrating National Rural Health Day (NRHD) on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Since 2011, this annual observance — founded and coordinated by NOSORH — has been held on the third Thursday of November to spotlight the unique healthcare challenges and remarkable strength of the nearly 61 million people living in rural America.

“Rural communities are the backbone of our state, and their health is vital to our collective future,” said Dr. Scott Harris, Alabama State Health Officer. “ADPH is proud to celebrate National Rural Health Day and acknowledge the unwavering commitment and steadfast dedication of rural healthcare providers, organizations, and community leaders who work tirelessly every day to improve the lives of others.” 

This year, ADPH is marking the occasion by hosting a reception to honor Dr. Curry's service and dedication to rural healthcare at the Jefferson County Department of Health. Dr. Curry dedicates his time to teaching and sharing his expertise as well as enabling the next generation of healthcare providers to deliver equitable healthcare to all rural communities in Alabama.
