You may get a new Medicaid ID card with a new
Medicaid ID number on it in
the mail between August and September 2024. This change is happening because
the Alabama Medicaid Agency is moving from an old eligibility computer system
to a new one.
If you already have a Medicaid ID number that
starts with 530, then you will not get a new card.
If your Medicaid ID number starts with 500,
then you will get a new card.
Do not throw away your old card when you get
the new one. It will
take time to change everyone in Medicaid’s system. Recipients should carry both
cards when visiting the doctor or getting a prescription.
These Medicaid groups will receive new
Medicaid ID cards:
- Elderly
or disabled people on special Medicaid programs including Continuous
Medicaid program, Disabled Adult Child (DAC) program, Widow/Widower
program
- Medicaid
Waiver program
- Refugee
Medical Assistance
Nursing Home
recipients will receive a new Medicaid ID number but not a new card
Questions you may have:
Q: What should
I do when I get the new card?
A: Give the
new Medicaid ID number to providers such as your doctor and your pharmacy. You
will still need to keep both the new and old cards.
Q: Will
my old card with the old number continue to work?
A: Yes, the
old Medicaid ID number should work until all system changes are done. Medicaid
is working closely with everyone involved to “link” the old Medicaid ID number
with the new Medicaid ID number.
Q: How is the
new Medicaid ID number different from the old number?
A: New Medicaid ID
numbers will begin with the numbers 530.
Q: What if I did not
receive my new card in the mail?
A: Medicaid recipients are not being
added to the new system through August 2024. Your old card should still work
until after this change.
