RE: AS Modifier Utilization for CRNP & PA Claims
According
to the Provider Billing Manual, Section 21.2.1 of Chapter 21, Medicaid requires
the use of modifier AS to report non-physician assistant-at-surgery services.
When a CRNP/PA assists a surgeon, Medicaid requires that the claim be submitted
under the CRNP/PA’s name with his or her provider number and with modifier AS
appended to the reported surgical code(s).
Effective
for dates of service on or after January 1, 2024, Medicaid has updated its
claim processing system to require the use of the AS modifier for applicable
procedure codes when a CRNP or PA assists with surgery. Please review the attached
listing of procedure codes that require the AS modifier.
