“Our nation’s arts sector has been among the hardest hit by
the COVID-19 pandemic. The National Endowment for the Arts’ American Rescue
Plan funding will help arts organizations rebuild and reopen,” said Dr. Maria
Rosario Jackson, chair of the NEA. “The arts are crucial to helping America’s
communities heal, unite, and inspire as well as essential to our nation’s
economic recovery.”
About the American Rescue Plan (ARP)
The American Rescue Plan was signed into law in March 2021
and included $135 million for the NEA for the arts sector. These monies were
distributed in three installments:
1) To regional and state arts agencies for distribution
through funding programs
2) To local arts agencies for subgranting
3) Awarded directly to arts organizations to support their
own operations
Currently, 63 of Alabama’s arts nonprofit organizations
have ARP-funded grants awarded by the Council on the Arts. The $814,100 granted
through the Alabama Arts Recovery Program supports essential operating
expenses, including employment of Alabama workers. Click here to view a
