Gulley’s Trucking, Inc. of Midfield, Alabama has been named “2009 Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) of the Year.” The award was made at the 12th Annual Statewide Entrepreneurial Development Institute Conference recently in Montgomery.
The conference was sponsored by Alabama A & M University, Alabama State University, Stillman College, Tuskegee University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Gulley’s Trucking, Inc., established in 2001, by former truck driver Roderick Gulley and his wife, Rita Gulley, employs five people with plans to expand to 25 employees by the end of the year. The company was certified by the Alabama Department of Transportation in 2002.
The company provides trucking-related concrete and excavation assistance for a multitude of infrastructure projects and maintains certifications with the Alabama Department of Transportation, the Birmingham Airport Authority and the Birmingham Construction Industry Authority.
The mission of the Alabama DBE Consortium is to assist under-utilized small businesses with classroom instruction and technical assistance to help create a level playing field so they can move into the mainstream of the highway and transportation industry.
