The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has named Nesin Therapy Services as a national winner of the Small Business Award Blue Ribbon.
This distinction places Nesin as one of the top 56 small businesses in the country and the only one honoree in Alabama.
The Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County's nominated Nesin as the 2008 Small Business of the Year in the personal services category, and this led to the national award.
The award recognizes a business' financial growth, investment in staff training and employee motivation, community involvement, customer service and business planning.
Janine Nesin believes the honor resulted from the business' commitment "to providing the highest quality care for patients and continuing support for development for employees and our community."
Janet Nesin, Janine Nesin and Michelle Nesin-Hunt are co-owners of Nesin Therapy Services. Janet Nesin founded the business and her daughters, both physical therapists, then joined her.
Nesin Therapy Services specializes in manual techniques, or methods that the staff uses in hands-on procedures to reduce pain and restore normal movements to joints and soft tissue including muscles, tendons and ligaments. Along with manual techniques, the clinic conducts physical therapy to rehabilitate with techniques, such as "neuromuscular and back re-education, balance training and strengthening," Janine Nesin said. Electrical stimulation, ice, heat and ultra-sound are other treatments.
The practice has "remained true to our value system. We've worked to grow our business. This commitment must have been evident to the Blue Ribbon selection committee," she said.
Janine Nesin holds degrees as a physical therapist, doctor of physical therapy and orthopaedic clinical specialist. The business has 33 employees - 20 therapists and 13 administrative staff members.
Janet Nesin founded Nesin Therapy Services in 1987 working from her Madison home. Originally, the focus was supplying physical therapy for home health agencies and nursing homes.
In 1999, the company moved to a larger office and added more outpatient services. By 2001, the outpatient division expanded to their clinic on Hughes Road. A Huntsville clinic opened in 2002. They plan to open a third clinic in 2010.
"We value excellence, growth, learning and teaching and implement these values daily," Nesin said. "The company has adapted a servant-leadership style aligned with our vision for growth and employee empowerment."
The clinic is located at 540 Hughes Road, Suite 8. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
