ABC Updates Allocated Spirits Purchase Process
Beginning February
2021, the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board will update its allocated
products policy intended to give more customers throughout the state the
ability to purchase these spirits.
Throughout the
year, Alabama ABC offers special releases of products, including highly sought
bourbons, whiskies and other small-batch spirits offerings.
These products are
distributed for purchase in stores. The following changes do not apply to the annual
sweepstakes drawings conducted by the agency.
Updates to the agency’s allocated spirits program include:
- Limiting
customers to purchase no more than two different bottles of allocated spirits
per person, per day
- Each
month, ABC will publish a list that includes the allocated products each ABC
store will receive
“Our intention is
to more equitably distribute limited-availability products to more customers
throughout the state,” said ABC Board Director of Product Management Brian
Guilbeau.
“Consumer demand
for allocated spirits has increased and we believe our updated purchasing
process will afford more people the opportunity to purchase these products that
are in short supply.”
Unless otherwise noted, the list of
products and stores to which the products will be delivered will be posted the
second Monday of each month. Delivery to the selected stores will take place
during the third week of each month.
Spirits
are considered allocated based on either the limited amount of product ABC has
access to or spirits that are limited in the total amount of time it can be
offered to customers.
Purchases
of allocated products are made available to residents of the State of Alabama
or active military personnel stationed in Alabama. Proof of residency will be
required to purchase allocated spirits.
