ABC Board to Hold First CAReer Fair

(MONTGOMERY, AL – July 24, 2020) The Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board is getting creative in its hiring process amid the coronavirus pandemic. Working in conjunction with the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office, Department of Labor, City of Montgomery and others, the ABC Board is interested in filling available positions while making the application process as simple and as safe as possible.

The ABC Board will host its first drive-thru CAReer Fair 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 31, 2020, at its administrative building located at 2715 Gunter Park Drive West, in the Gunter Industrial Park.

The Board is looking to fill a variety of positions including retail sales associates, warehouse associates, stand-up forklift operators, administrative associates, laborers and more. Department managers and human resources representatives will interview candidates from the comfort of their own cars. Participants will also have access to recruitment information for other in-demand jobs from the State of Alabama Personnel Department.

"What people are missing when applying for jobs online is the connection with the hiring managers,” said Mac Gipson, administrator of the Alabama ABC Board. “We wanted a way for job seekers to be able to meet with us in-person and streamline the rest of the hiring process.”

The CAReer Fair event will be held in the ABC Board parking lot. Attendees will stay in their vehicles and are asked to fill out a job application before leaving. 

The ABC Board saw a 10% increase in sales in March 2020 compared to the same month last year. The $6.1 million increase in sales is largely attributed to customer habits shaped by the social distancing measures enforced in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We know people are in need of jobs right now,” Gipson said. “We are looking for motivated people to join our team. The CAReer Fair is a creative way to help connect us with potential employees, while maintaining medical protocols.”

ABC employees are State of Alabama employees who have access to the same benefits offered to all state employees including a generous leave and holiday schedule, health insurance, retirement and much more.

Created by the Alabama Legislature in 1937, the Alabama ABC Board controls alcoholic beverages through distribution, licensing, enforcement and education. The Board operates 174 retail stores that sell alcohol to consumers.  Also, the Board conducts a school-based, anti-underage drinking awareness program – Under Age, Under Arrest – that has reached approximately 150,000 middle, junior high, high school and college students.
