State Veterans Homes Plan Veterans Day Tributes

Home to more than 700 veterans, the Alabama State Veterans Homes treat every day like Veterans Day, where those who served their country find love, care and respect from staff and their community.
The William F. Green, the Bill Nichols, Floyd E. “Tut” Fann and the Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Homes are extending a public invitation to Veterans Day programs on Monday, November 11. These events will be a time to celebrate the men and women who have served our nation faithfully.

The Bill Nichols ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at 1784 Elkahatchee Road in Alexander City. Chief Master Sgt. Michael Young, an instructor at the Chief Master Sergeant Leadership Course at Maxwell AFB, Gunter Annex, is the guest speaker. Chief Young is responsible for the leadership and development of more than 750 Total Force Chief Master Sergeants annually through an in-residence program of instruction. The Alexander City Police Honor Guard will give a 21-gun salute.  For more information, contact Kathryn Fuller at 256-329-3311.

The Col. Robert L. Howard events also begin at 10 a.m. at 7054 Veterans Parkway in Pell City. The program features guest speaker Col. Greg Estes, US Army, retired. Colonel Estes was a civil affairs officer serving with the 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command in Birmingham. The Woodlawn Junior ROTC will post the colors and WWII Navy veteran, Sue Teague, will lead the pledge. For more information, contact Hiliary Hardwick at 205-338-6487.

The W. F. Green ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at 300 Faulkner Drive in Bay Minette. SSgt. Ed Lessard, U. S. Air Force retired, will deliver the keynote address. Sergeant Lessard is a ride captain with the Patriot Guard Riders and a ride director at American Legion Post 199 in Fairhope. Music will be provided by the Alabama Singing Women. The Baldwin County High School Air Force Jr. ROTC Drill Team will post the colors and Cub Scout Pack 76 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. For more information, contact Kathy Voll at 251-937-8049.

The Tut Fann ceremony begins at 2 p.m. at 2701 Meridian Street in Huntsville. Lt. Gen. Ed Daly, Redstone Arsenal senior commander and Army Materiel Command deputy commanding general, will be the guest speaker. In his role, he is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Army's logistics enterprise. The Columbia High School JROTC will post the colors and residents of Tut Fann will lead the pledge and provide the invocation. For more information, contact Charlotte Eason at 256-851-2807.
