ORLANDO, Fla. – Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman was unanimously elected to the Executive Board of the United States Election Assistance Commission's (EAC) Standards Board.
The EAC is an independent, bipartisan agency created by the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) in 2002. The commission assists and guides state and local election administrators in improving the management of elections for federal office. It serves as a national clearinghouse and resource for information regarding election administration. It also accredits voting system testing, laboratories and certifications.
"Alabama needs to be represented in all areas of elections both nationally and at home," Chapman said. "It is in our best interest to contribute to and benefit from elections information that affects our state."
Also at today's meeting, The University of South Alabama showcased their program, "Voting System Risk Assessment... Election Process Models and Voting System Models," which is funded by a grant received from the EAC.
The program was presented by Dr. Alec Yasinsac, Dr. Robert Sweeney, Paul Lux and Lisa Ann Benham from Florida.
"I am proud of the work the University of South Alabama is doing and the positive national attention they are bringing to Alabama," Chapman said.
